Tami Heide
Mon-Fri: 12PM-6PM

Tami Heide started her radio career at Emerson College’s student-run station, WERS in Boston, Massachusetts.

When hosting the WERS morning show Coffee House, she was suspended for playing the Sex Pistols “God Save The Queen” at 9am. She graduated from Emerson College Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s degree in Speech and Communications in 1981. She also volunteered at WMBR, MIT’s student station across the Charles River in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Tami worked at the original Newbury Comics, a record/comic book/music/lifestyle store in Boston’s Back Bay during her school years and beyond.

For a time, Aimee Mann of Til Tuesday worked with Tami at the store. This was in Aimee’s pre-Til Tuesday days, when she was in the Young Snakes. When there were lulls, Aimee would cut Tami’s hair. Tami’s hair was wicked short for a while. Al Jourgenson of Ministry would come into the store looking for Aimee. This was in Ministry’s pre-heroin years when With Sympathy was first out.

Newbury Comics was down the street from Synchro Sound, the Cars studio. They were frequent customers. John Belushi also stopped in and bought the Decline of Western Civilization and Fear cassettes. Jello Biafra came in right as Tami was closing up one night, and insisted she play all kinds of 45’s for him. He didn’t buy anything. Punk.

While in college, Tami was an intern for Charles Laquidara, host of the morning show “The Big Mattress” at WBCN in Boston. WBCN eventually hired Tami as a host, part-time, fill in and weekends, and then nights. Then she segued to KROQ in Los Angeles in July of 1991. She hosted the popular Flashback Lunch when Richard Blade left.

In 2005, Tami segued to JACK FM as a host and writer. She remained there through 2016. In May of 2017, Tami started doing shifts on the WAVE in Los Angeles.

She is also host and executive producer of Open Line, the one-hour magazine style public affairs program that airs on the 5 Entercom music stations in Los Angeles.

Tami is excited to be part of ROQ of the 80’s for Radio.com!
