(SportsRadio 610) -- The Astros would have been out of the first inning unscathed had their infielders made a routine play.
Instead, a short hop from second baseman Jose Altuve and an uninspiring effort from first baseman Yuli Gurriel put two men on base, with the Tampa Bay Rays still down to their final out of the inning.
Then, Manuel Margot hit a three-run shot on a Lance McCullers Jr. curveball to give the Rays an early 3-0 lead.
The error is on Altuve in the stat sheet, but Gurriel shares blame as well. The Astros first baseman was visibly frustrated in the dugout after Margot’s home run.
To make matters worse, Altuve had a similar error throwing to first in the third inning.
An uncharacteristic error by Carlos Correa in Game 1 began this pattern of poor fielding by a typically elite defense.
