Major League Baseball is moving toward a bubble.
The league finalized plans on a playoff format late Monday night which require the Division Series, League Championship Series and World Series to be played within a bubble, per MLB Insider Ken Rosenthal.
The American League would be played in Southern California while the National League in Texas. The World Series would be held at Globe Life Park in Dallas.
The first round, a best-of-three series in the new expanded 16-team format for this year, would still be played at the home park of the higher seed.
According to Joel Sherman of the New York Post, the plan is for players on contending teams to “quarantine” at a hotel in the final seven days of the regular season and undergo daily COVID tests. Players can elect to leave the hotel if their team is eliminated.
There was also a report from SI’s Tom Verducci about the possibility of playing each of the first three series without any off days – but it is unconfirmed if that was part of the agreement reached Monday night.
