Dwyane Wade is using Twitter to come to his son’s defense in the sweetest way.
After Gabrielle Union posted a family photo featuring Zion Wade sporting fake nails and a crop top, trolls came for the 12-year-old with tons of hate. The photo featured all four Wade family members with the caption, “Happy Thanksgiving good people.”
Union, who faces backlash from her abrupt exit from “America’s Got Talent,” continued in the caption to thank friends and family for their support. However, the post about support and gratitude still led to a bunch of drama for the Wade clan.
Commenters took to the post with their hate, encouraging the young boy to “dress manly.” Dwyane’s response tweet, which garnered hundreds of thousands of likes, fired back at the trolls.
“I’ve seen some post-Thanksgiving hate on social about my family photo. Stupidity is a part of this world we live in – so I get it,” he writes. He continues, “But here’s the thing – I’ve been chosen to lead my family not y’all. So we will continue to be us and support each other with pride, love & a smile.”
Despite the hoards of commenters revealing their hatred, many more came to the Wade family’s defense, lauding their allowing Zion to express himself freely in a supportive environment.
One tweeter gave Dwyane a shoutout, saying how “powerful” it was that they are “embracing their son’s individuality.” Dwyane tweeted back at the supporter, saying, “as a parent my only goal is that my kids feel that I see them, love them, and support them.”
