Marcus Smart, Jaylen Brown Reportedly Had to Be Separated During 'Heated Confrontation' After Game 2

Shortly after the Celtics went down 2-0 in their Eastern Conference Finals series against the Heat, reports emerged that there was a lot of yelling coming from the Celtics’ locker room, including from Marcus Smart, and the sound of things being thrown as well.

Now some more details have emerged. According to NBA insider Shams Charania, Smart and Jaylen Brown had a “heated confrontation” inside the locker room and needed to be separated by teammates.

Sources told Charania that Smart stormed into the room after the game and said that other players needed to be held accountable and not just point the finger at him.

Brown then reportedly confronted Smart as Smart continued on, shouting that the Celtics needed to stay together and that Smart needed to cool off. Sources told Charania that Smart also had verbal exchanges with a couple assistant coaches during the game.

Charania reports that some objects were indeed thrown around inside the room, but that teammates diffused the situation before things turned physical between Smart and Brown.

Smart and Brown have already smoothed things over, according to Charania’s sources. One source told him, “They will move past this and focus on the task.”

Brown was asked about Smart during his postgame press conference after reports of Smart’s yelling had surfaced.

“He plays with passion, he’s full of fire, and that’s what I love about him most,” Brown said. “He has that desire and that will, and we need him to continue to have that. We embrace each other, and who Marcus is, I love him for it.”

Game 3 is Saturday night at 8:30 p.m. ET.
