Shaquille O’Neal is making a splash in the real estate scene.
The Hall of Fame legend held an official ribbon-cutting ceremony earlier this week in Newark, New Jersey for a 22-story, $80 million high-rise apartment building with New York City views.
It is the first high-rise apartment in Newark in more than 50 years. O’Neal, a Newark native, was part of the public-private partnership group between that state that helped develop the building.
The high-rise has one million square feet of space, 169 rentals and ground-floor retail space as well, per Hoboken Patch.
Among the many amenities listed on realtor.com include a co-working lounge, Amazon lockers, a techno gym, private dining room and sky deck. Studios, 1-bedroom and 2-bedroom apartments are currently available between $1,800 and $2,895 per month.
During a ceremony introducing the project last year, O’Neal recalled a conversation he had with his mother nearly 30 years ago about how the city needed to be rejuvenated.
“"In 1992, me and my mother were visiting some relatives and my mother said to me, 'I remember when this city used to be beautiful, somebody needs to come by and invest in this city and make it beautiful again,' he said. "She gave me an elbow to the chest like I'm that somebody."
