A.J. Green Expected to Miss 6-8 Weeks After Injury on First Day of Training Camp

A.J. Green's season is starting off on the wrong foot.

The Cincinnati Bengals’ receiver was carted off the field Saturday — the team’s first practice — after an injury to his left ankle.

He is now expected to be sidelined 6-8 weeks with torn ligaments in his left ankle, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Sunday.

Some were quick to blame the field conditions at Dayton’s Welcome Stadium for Green's latest injury woes.

“The turf was terrible,” Bengals wideout Tyler Boyd told the Cincinnati Enquirer. “I couldn’t run any routes out there. I’m falling all over the ground. It was bad. It was rocks, pebbles out there.”

Speaking to The Athletic’s Jay Morrison, wide receiver Josh Malone said: “It was bad.”

Multiple outlets reported, however, that the field passed an inspection by the NFL.

Green is in the final season of a 4-year, $60 million contract with the Bengals.
