Cam Newton's cleats pay tribute to the late actor Chadwick Boseman

Cam Newton’s first touchdown as a Patriot came with a tribute to the recently-deceased Chadwick Boseman, striking the “Wakanda Forever” salute made famous by the actor in the movie Black Panther.

For Sunday’s game against the Raiders at Gillette Stadium Newton gave homage to the actor once again via a brand new pair of Under Armor cleats.

The Wakanda Forever salute has become a symbol to celebrate black excellence, with Boseman’s role in the box office hit serving as a springboard.

Boseman died of colon cancer at the age of 44 on Aug. 28.
