It took one game for the Eagles to move Jalen Hurts into the top backup spot.
Hurts, the team’s second-round pick, will be the team’s top backup quarterback on Sunday for their game against Los Angeles. Hurts was inactive, with Nate Sudfeld the top backup, last week vs. Washington.
Hurts getting the top spot is interesting for a few reasons.
First, head coach Doug Pederson has insisted throughout training camp that Hurts was the No. 3 quarterback and Sudfeld had the top backup spot locked down. Still, despite Pederson saying that, Hurts got plenty of work in training camp, basically splitting reps with Sudfeld.
Hurts being active also means that if Carson Wentz were to go down it would be the rookie heading into the game, which will certainly be interesting to watch, considering the potential fallout from him playing well.
Another added benefit of Hurts being dressed? Don’t rule out Hurts getting onto the field for a few plays as the Eagles try to jumpstart an offense that scored only 17 points last week.
