Falcons Collapse vs. Cowboys Puts Them on Wrong Side of Record Books Yet Again

Somehow, the Atlanta Falcons continue to reach unprecedented levels of blowing big leads.

The unfortunate new signature move for the franchise was demonstrated yet again on Sunday in a 40-39 loss to the Dallas Cowboys in which Atlanta held a 19-point lead at halftime and a nine-point lead at halftime.

The latest collapse put the Falcons in the history books once again for all the wrong reasons.

According to Elias Sports Bureau, the Falcons became the first team since turnovers started being tracked in 1933 to score 39 points and have zero turnovers and still lose the game. All other teams were 440-0 in that scenario.

If that isn’t embarrassing enough, there’s more.

With 2:52 remaining in the game and the Falcons leading by nine points, they had a 99.9% win probability and still botched the game.

The last time the Falcons had at least a 99% win probability and still lost the game was, well, you know when that was as it happened on the game’s biggest stage.

While this loss was not as devastating as the latter, it was still a punch to the gut, dropping Atlanta to 0-2 on the season and giving everyone else the chance to bring up bad memories from that infamous Super Bowl nearly four years ago.
