The craziest example this season of the potential effectiveness of employing a streaming quarterback strategy in fantasy football presented itself over the past two weeks.
Ryan. Freaking. Tannehill.
The former Dolphins starting quarterback and current back-up turned starter for the Titans has produced 19+ fantasy points in back-to-back weeks against the Chargers and Buccaneers.
He wasn’t alone in Week 8 either. Gardner Minshew posted 24 more points. Even Matt Schaub and Matt Moore produced 19-point weeks.
Through eight weeks, my streaming quarterback nominees are averaging 15.5 fantasy points per week. My top option each week is averaging 22.7 fantasy points per game, which would be QB3 in overall points and QB4 on a per game basis.
Each week, I will recommend three streaming QB options you can pick up and start in both your normal, redraft fantasy leagues as well as daily fantasy lineups, among those QBs rostered in less than 45 percent of leagues and track the results throughout the season.
Admittedly, it’s getting tougher and tougher this season to find streamers as it seems most teams are opting to roster a second quarterback.

Cam Newton/Kyle Allen (CAR) - 44% rostered, vs. TEN
This is more of a stash than streaming recommendation, as Newton has already been ruled out for Week 9. When Cam Newton is back and healthy, he’s not only a streaming option but a potential top-10 QB rest of season. He has a long track record, when healthy, of producing at a high level in fantasy with five seasons finishing as a top-four QB. As for Kyle Allen in Week 9, Jameis Winston posted 17.3 points on the Titans despite losing eight fantasy points to turnovers last week. Philip Rivers put up 21.2 points the week prior on Tennessee. Buffalo’s Josh Allen even put up 17 on this defense. The weapons around Allen cannot be disputed. Cross a line through last week's performance against an elite 49ers defense.
Sam Darnold (NYJ) - 15% rostered, at MIA
God help me for this recommendation, but Darnold has the three magic words in his corner for Week 9 - he plays Miami. Darnold’s play of late would keep him far, far away from this column (four TDs, nine turnovers in his last three games), but alas, the Dolphins are allowing the second-most fantasy points to quarterbacks this season (24 per game). And who doesn’t like a good revenge game narrative in fantasy football, as head coach Adam Gase returns to the place where we all first discovered he’s a bad coach.
Derek Carr (OAK) - 21% rostered, vs. DET
The Lions are allowing the sixth-most fantasy points to quarterbacks this season at a clip of more than 21 fantasy points per game. Carr has looked better since his bye week too, averaging 19.6 points per game over the past two weeks. He's still not an above average quarterback, but the matchup is good and he has his receivers back to full strength with Tyrell Williams returning last week. Oakland is also projected by oddsmakers to score the third-most points in Week 9.
