Mike Florio: NFL could suspend Raiders' Gruden for not wearing mask

The NFL appears to be cracking down hard on teams not following the rules put in place because of COVID-19.

One of them is coaches wearing masks on the sidelines, which several have had trouble following, but none more than Jon Gruden. Despite being fined, Gruden continued to not wear his mask properly against the Bills on Sunday.

Appearing on Dale & Keefe Monday, Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio said he wouldn't be surprised if a heavy penalty is coming, including even the coach getting suspended.

“I don’t think it would be a fine this time for Jon Gruden," he said. "He got whacked for $100,000, the team got hit for $250,000. The Raiders have separately been fined $50,000 for having an unauthorized person in the locker room. They had a group of players last Monday night go to a super-spreader event in Nevada. The league last week said, ‘We’ve seen progress when it comes to guys wearing masks, but we want to see more and if there are there could be suspensions and forfeiture of draft picks.’

"… He is daring them to whack him, and I poked around the league last night with what the league was thinking about doing and I got crickets in response. I wouldn’t be surprised if at some point today we find out the Raiders are going to suffer a major penalty because they have had these various irregularities, because they had the players at the super-spreader event. I think it puts Gruden in line because I think at some level it’s a reflection on him. What messages are you getting through to your players? Do you think the Patriots would have done what the Raiders did? No, because Bill Belichick is going to tell them in uncertain terms what they can and can’t do.

"I won’t be surprised if they have to give up a draft pick. I won’t be surprised if Gruden gets suspended because the league, after everything that has happened this week, has to make sure everyone understands the rules have to be followed or everything else will implode.”
