Even Ben Roethlisberger could not believe the way the Steelers game against the Titans ended.
The battle of undefeated teams came to the very end, with Tennessee storming back to try and force overtime against Pittsburgh.
Titans kicker Stephen Gostkowski, who was good from 51 yards out earlier in the game, lined up for the game-tying 46-yard field goal with 19 seconds remaining, but instead pushed it wide right to secure a 27-24 win for the Steelers.
Roethlisberger’s reaction to the former Patriots nemesis missing the kick was priceless.
Gostkowski, who is in his first season with the Titans, has struggled as he has now only made 10 of 16 field goal attempts.
Afterward, Roethlisberger tipped his cap to the defense for helping bail him out of the three interceptions he threw, including his fourth quarter pick which set up the field goal attempt by Gostkowski.
“Thank you defense,” Roethlisberger said on the CBS postgame show. “It was a crazy game. Two really good football teams. We gave them the ball way too much today. They took advantage of our turnovers, but our defense stepped up when they needed to.”
The Steelers are now the only undefeated team remaining in the AFC, while the Seattle Seahawks entered Sunday night’s game against the Arizona Cardinals as the only other undefeated team in the NFL.
They will have another highly anticipated matchup next weekend against AFC North rival Baltimore Ravens.
