T.J. Watt denies report he skipped exit interview with Steelers

A local Pittsburgh radio host recently reported that Steelers star linebacker T.J. Watt skipped out on his exit interview following the team’s disappointing end to the 2020 season.

Watt is adamantly denying this.

The Steelers linebacker called out the report and talk show host, Mark Madden, on Twitter, saying he can talk to head coach Mike Tomlin, GM Kevin Colbert and defensive coordinator Keith Butler – all of whom he met with at the end of the season.

Even brother J.J. chimed in.

It is a pretty strong denial from Watt, who openly calls on Madden to speak with all of those present for the meeting that allegedly did not happen.

Madden continued to double down on his report, though,

Watt is coming off his second consecutive All-Pro season, finishing with a league-high 15 sacks and 23 tackles for a loss. He will be playing on his fifth-year option in 2021, so talks of a possible contract extension likely loom this summer.

If Watt indeed skipped out on his exit interview, it could be a precursor for what’s to come in any negotiations on an extension.

Of course, if Watt is the one telling the truth, it is all much ado about nothing.
