Tyreek Hill's first impression of Patrick Mahomes? 'I thought he was trash'

While the Kansas City Chiefs traded up to draft Patrick Mahomes, no one was really sure what to expect out of the Texas Tech product.

Even Tyreek Hill wasn’t buying into the quarterback during his first training camp with the Chiefs.

“I thought he was trash,” Hill said Tuesday night on Showtime’s “Inside the NFL.”

“When he first got here, I was like ‘this who y’all drafted right here?’” Hill said. “But hey, look, he proved me complete – I don’t know – it was like his second year his quarterback mechanics were different, he was spending more time with his quarterbacks coach, with coach [Andy] Reid. The dude was, like, different.”

Mahomes spent his first season in Kansas City behind Alex Smith on the depth chart and played in just one game – a Week 17 matchup against the Denver Broncos.

Mahomes completed 22 of 35 pass attempts for 284 yards and an interception, failing to throw a touchdown pass but still won the game, 27-24.

While Hill burst onto the scene as a rookie, finishing as an All-Pro in 2016, he started putting up monster numbers once Mahomes took over in 2018 – finishing with a career-high 87 catches for 1,479 yards and 12 touchdowns.

This season, Hill has already surpassed his touchdown mark and has 68 catches for 1,021 yards with five games remaining. He is coming off an explosive 13-catch, 269-yard and three touchdown performance against the Bucs on Sunday.

The duo of Mahomes-Hill is arguably the best QB-WR connection in the NFL.

So much for that trash quarterback, huh?
