On October 6, 2020, this NHL team won the Internet.
Who are the Ottawa Senators.
The Senators provided a pleasant surprise to the virtual NHL Draft on Tuesday. With the third overall pick, NHL Network cut to NHL commissioner Gary Bettman, who said the Senators had a special guest to make the pick
Cue the "Jeopardy!" music and Alex Trebek appearing on the screen.
Trebek, an Ottawa native and University of Ottawa graduate, proceeded to read the category – NHL – and the clue: “With the third pick in the 2020 NHL Draft, the Ottawa Senators choose this player.”
Trebek then made the pick. “And the correct response: Who is Tim Stutzle.”
The TV announcers were caught off guard just like everyone else by the unexpected cameo and Jeopardy!-style announcement of the pick. Fans of all teams seemed to love it on social media.
Trebek, 80, has continued to host "Jeopardy!" while battling pancreatic cancer -- which he was diagnosed with in March of 2019.
Stutzle is an 18-year-old phenom from Germany who may have a long career in the NHL ahead of him, but he will most certainly go down in history as the guy who was drafted by Alex Trebek.
Perhaps it will be a trivia question on "Jeopardy!" one day.
