Hotel Room Burglary: Women’s Soccer Champion Loses Wedding Ring and NYC Key

The World Cup celebration was cut short for a player from the US women’s soccer team when her hotel room was burglarized.

Midfielder Allie Long tweeted late on Thursday that someone had robbed her Los Angeles hotel room after she and the rest of the women’s national team were honored at the ESPYs for last Sunday’s World Cup victory against the Netherlands.

In the tweet, the player wrote that someone had stolen her wedding ring, cash, and the key to “my favorite city,” referring to the honorary city key given to the players by New York Mayor Bill de Blasio following Wednesday afternoon’s ticker-tape parade.

According to TMZ, Long reported about $4,000 in cash missing. The wedding ring was valued at around $15,000.

In her tweet, she mentioned the New York mayor, asking, “Do you make copies?”

Mayor de Blasio had her back, offering his best wishes in a response, and reassuring her, “Don’t worry about the key. Like any good New Yorker, we keep a spare for our neighbors!”

Long is a native of Northport, Long Island.
