HOUSTON (SportsRadio 610) -- Astros pitcher Lance McCullers Jr. has been placed on the injured list with neck nerve irritation.
The move comes just two days after McCullers was pulled in the first inning of his start against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, where he did not record a single out.
McCullers was seen looking at his hand and called for the team trainer. McCullers, who is coming off Tommy John surgery in 2018, indicated after the game Friday that he was not in pain, rather dealing with what Astros manager Dusty Baker called “a dead arm phase.”
McCullers walked four batters and gave up a home run to Mike Trout before he was pulled from the game.
The Astros recalled left-handed pitcher Cionel Perez from the taxi squad to take McCullers’ place on the roster. McCullers’ injured list stint is retroactive to Saturday.
