The Red Sox have some serious competition for the services of Jackie Bradley Jr.

As was reported by WEEI.com, the Astros went into the offseason with serious interest in the free agent outfielder. Thanks to Peter Gammons, we now have an idea of how serious Houston is.

The Red Sox have reached out to Bradley Jr. and appear to have genuine interest in bringing back the centerfielder.

Both the Red Sox and Astros seemingly need centerfielders, with Houston potentially losing free agent George Springer. (For more on the history between Springer and Sox assistant hitting coach Peter Fatse, click here.)

Houston also is facing the possibility of watching two other outfielders -- Michael Brantley and Josh Reddick -- depart via free agency.

MLB Trade Rumors projects Springer getting a five-year, $125 million contract from the White Sox, with Bradley Jr. landing with the Astros at two years, $18 million.

The 30-year-old Bradley Jr. finished his 2020 season very strong, totaling a .326 batting average and .903 OPS in September.
