I would typically be working three jobs this time of year, but due to the state of the world I'm at home only working one! I tend bar at both State Farm Arena and Truist Park, so until sports are back, we'll be making drinks from home!

Beau's Perfect Margarita - My most popular margarita version and the one that I drink at home

Glassware: Literally any glass will do, or red cup.

  • ice
  • Kosher salt (optional)
  • 2 oz tequila (I prefer a nice, earthy Añejo tequila)
  • 1 oz orange liqueur (I use Gran Marnier or Gran Gala)
  • 2 limes
  • 1 orange

Also needed to make life easier: Juicer (can be hand juicer or electric)

If electing to squeeze juice out with hands, double the amount of fruit being used.

Instructions: Coat rim of glass with juice from a lime slice, put glass upside down in kosher salt to coat rim (you can buy a fancy rimmer from the grocery or liquor store down the street or put some salt on a small plate). Combine Ice, tequila, orange liqueur, juice from one lime, and juice from half of an orange in to glass. Stir. Garnish with lime and orange slice. Enjoy!

Too tart? Add a little soda water. Not tart enough? Add juice from half of a lemon. Not sweet enough? Add juice from other half of orange. Not fancy enough? Strain in to martini glass. Not fruity enough? Shake with fresh strawberries!

The Traditional 'Old Fashioned' - This is one the most popular drinks that I make, and a favorite of most whiskey drinkers.

Glassware: lowball/Old Fashioned glass or red cup

  • ice
  • 3 oz whiskey (feel free to dump in as much as you like) I use rye whiskey in mine.
  • Aromatic Bitters (Can be found at grocery store)
  • 1/2 oz Simple Syrup (Mix equal parts sugar and warm water, stir or shake until sugar dissolves. There's no need to buy simple syrup)
  • Zest of an orange (The orange part of the peel, you can just use the entire peel of a slice if you don't want to use a peeler)
  • Cherry

Instructions: Add 3 dashes of aromatic bitters to simple syrup in the bottom of the glass, then fill with ice. Add whiskey. Rub the rim of glass with zest or orange side of peel then drop in glass. Garnish with cherry, enjoy!

The 3-pointer - A refreshing, warm weather drink (also great in fall and winter!)

Glassware: Literally any glass, or a red cup. Use any 12-16 oz cup or glass.

  • ice
  • 2 oz Vodka (feel free to dump in  as much as you like)
  • 1 oz each of the following: orange juice, pineapple juice, cranberry juice
  • 2 oz lemon-lime soda
  • orange slice
  • cherry

Instructions: Combine ice, vodka, and juices in glass. Stir. Top with lemon-lime soda. Garnish with orange and cherry. Enjoy!

Too sweet? Substitute grapefruit juice for the pineapple juice!

The Manhatten - The most popular among whiskey drinkers

Glassware: Martini glass or red cup (for 'straight up') OR lowball glass or red cup (for 'rocks')

Also needed but not completely necessary for 'straight up': Shaker (if you don't want to buy one, 2 cups, one bigger than the other will work. The smaller cup should fit snuggly inside the bigger one)

  • 3 oz whiskey (Use as much as you like, you're probably already home!)
  • 1/2 oz Sweet Vermouth (an aromatized wine, the liquor store down the street will have it)
  • Aromatic bitters (Can probably be found at grocery store, or the liquor store down the street will have it)
  • cherry

Instructions 'Straight Up': Put vermouth in martini glass or red cup, swirl around to coat the inside of glass or cup then discard. Combine the ice, whiskey, and 3 dashes of aromatic bitters in shaker or big cup (invert smaller cup and put inside bigger cup creating a seal). Shake vigorously for ten seconds (Or swirl for ten seconds for stronger taste). Strain in to martini glass or cup (flip smaller cup over and place down in to bigger cup to strain). Garnish with cherry. Enjoy!

Instructions 'rocks': Combine ice, whiskey, vermouth, and bitters in to lowball glass or cup. Stir. Garnish with cherry. Enjoy!
