Decades after her meteoric music career was tragically cut short, Selena Quintanilla is still celebrated, from Kacey Musgraves’ tribute to her at the Houston Astrodome to Kim Kardashian and Demi Lovato rocking her iconic purple jumpsuit on Halloween.
The first Latin artist to debut atop the Billboard 200 with her posthumous album "Dreaming of You" and the inspiration behind the biopic film about her life that launched Jennifer Lopez's Hollywood career into the stratosphere, Quintanilla's legacy is ever-present in the lives of her fans, from her music to the new Netflix series about her.
One fan is taking it to the next level on social media and imitating Quintanilla, but she has a step up above other would-be doppelgängers: she bears a striking resemblance to the singer.
According to E!, Anais Garmendia Benítez has quickly gotten the attention of Quintanilla’s fans on social media because of the lip sync videos she posts in which she dresses like the musician.
“I want to thank all of the people that support this content, I honestly do it with so much love,” said Garmendia. “I’m not trying to replace anybody, and we (those who imitate her) only do it to keep remembering Selena Quintanilla, for all of the new generations that don’t know her, or who know her through these platforms that allow us to create this type of content.”
