“The Formula” follows the story of a Formula One racing prodigy who becomes a getaway driver in an attempt to save the only family he has left.
At the helm will be Gerard McMurray, who directed one of Netflix’s first original feature film “Burning Sands.” McMurray is set to write and direct, as well as produce the film through his production company Buppie Productions.
The film marks De Niro’s first return to Netflix since starring in Martin Scorcese’s “The Irishman.”
De Niro just finished work on “Wash Me in the River,” which he starred in alongside Machine Gun Kelly and John Malkovich, and which has been described as “an action-thrilled in the vein of ‘No Country for Old Men.’”
The legendary actor is currently at work on an untitled film from “American Hustle” director David O. Russell alongside Christian Bale and Margot Robbie.
Boyega most recently starred in “Red, White and Blue,” an installment of Steve McQueen’s film series “Small Axe.”
Boyega has also starred in the “Star Wars” sequel trilogy and “Detroit,” and is currently working on “They Cloned Tyrone” alongside Jamie Foxx.
