Governor decries FBI vetting of Texas National Guard troops deployed to DC

With a thousand Texas National Guard members in Washington D.C., Governor Abbott is angry to hear the FBI is doing background checks on all Guard troops assigned to inauguration security duty.

The FBI is vetting all 25,000 Guardsman assigned to the inauguration, about a thousand from the Texas Guard.

When he heard about this, Abbott fired off a Tweet last night saying "No one should ever question the loyalty or professionalism of the Texas National Guard."

Abbott further calls the news the "most offensive thing" he's ever heard.

He concludes by saying he'll never authorize Texas Guardsman for such duty again if they are subject to this sort of background check.

There has been speculation that a small number of Guardsmen may be sympathetic to extremist groups.
