We now know the details of Alex Smith's lucrative four-year, $94 million contract extension with the Redskins.

The 33-year-old quarterback is set to earn $40 million in 2018, including a $27 million signing bonus to go with the $13 million he was already owed on the final year of his deal with Kansas City.

Alex Smith signed his 4-year, $94 million extension with the #Redskins last week. He'll make $40M this season, including a $27M signing bonus.

Smith's cap numbers: $18.4M in 2018, $20.4M in 2019, $21.4M in 2020, $24.4M in 2021, $26.4M in 2022.

Smith's $16 million for the 2020 season becomes fully guaranteed next March, essentially guaranteeing three years for Smith in Washington, unless the Redskins decide to cut Smith after the 2018 season, at a considerable cost.

Redskins QB Alex Smith's 4-year, $94 million extension includes $40M in '18, with $55M fully guaranteed. His $16M for '20 becomes fully guaranteed next March. So this deal ties the team to him for at least 3 years, at a rate of $71M.
