Wizards sign Isaiah Thomas

The Washington Wizards and point guard Isaiah Thomas have agreed to a one-year deal, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reports.

The Wizards made the point guard position a big priority on the first full day of NBA free agency with a pair of free agent signings. With John Wall likely out for the entirety of the 2019-20 season due to injury (and eating up a significant portion of the salary cap) the Wizards were in need of some inexpensive depth at the point guard position.
The 30-year-old Thomas certainly fits that bill as the deal he will sign with the Wizards, his seventh NBA franchise, will be for the league minimum salary,  according to The Athletic's Ben Standig.
Earlier Monday, Washington, priced out of the market for restricted free agent point guard Thomas Satoransky, executed a sign-and-trade with the Chicago Bulls and signed veteran point guard Ish Smith.

Thomas represents a calculated risk for the Wizards as he has struggled in recent years with health and consistency following a pair of breakout seasons with the Boston Celtics. He was named to back-to-back NBA All-Star games in 2016 and 2017, but a hip injury has kept the diminutive point guard from reaching peak performance and seeing regular game time. Thomas has managed just 44 games over the last two seasons.

Thomas marks the third signing by the Wizards in free agency, with the first being the re-signing of Thomas Bryant on Sunday.
