In a move that took the entire NFL world by surprise, the Giants traded star wide receiver Odell Beckham to the Cleveland Browns Tuesday for safety Jabrill Peppers, a first-round pick and a third-round pick.
Here are the trade terms: Giants recieve a first-round pick in 2019 (No. 17 overall), the Browns' second third-round pick this year and S Jabril Peppers, source tells ESPN. Browns get Odell Beckham Jr.
Beckham had only signed a five-year, $90 million contract with the Giants last August, and will account for $16 million of dead money on New York's salary cap in 2019. Despite all his talent and production, Beckham caused plenty of drama off the field, and it appears Giants management had had enough.
The blockbuster trade has major implications for the entire league, but for the Redskins in particular, the Beckham trade means they won't have to face him twice every season. In six career games against Washington, Beckham torched the Redskins, catching 48 passes for 665 yards and five touchdowns.
In addition, the Giants as a team continue to get weaker on paper. New York traded pass rusher Olivier Vernon to Cleveland earlier in the offseason and let safety Landon Collins hit free agency. Collins, of course, signed a six-year deal with the Redskins Monday.
Redskins fans may not have much confidence in their team heading into next season, but they can take comfort in the fact one of their division rivals looks to be going into rebuild mode.
