Redskins preseason broadcasts to include gaming element

Not only will you be able to cheer on the Redskins when they take on the Browns in their preseason opener Thursday. You'll have a chance to win some money, too.

During Thursday's game and Washington's other three preseason games, fans can watch an alternative broadcast on NBC Sports Washington Plus called "Predict the Game," a free-to-play contest that will offer $1,000 cash prizes per quarter and marking one of the NFL's first steps toward legalized gambling.

"Predict the Game," introduced during select Wizards games this past season, will ask viewers to predict such things as who will have the most rushing yards in a quarter or which player will record the most tackles.

These telecasts will have the same video and audio as the traditional telecasts which will run on WRC and NBC Sports Washington but will feature graphics and interactivity, including an on-screen contest leaderboard.

"We want casual fans to be more involved in the broadcast,” NBC Sports Washington Senior VP and GM Damon Phillips told John Ourand of the Sports Business Journal. “When they are more involved, they stay longer.”

"We learned that instant gratification for viewers is important ... people want to know where they stand," Phillips added. "We’re learning a lot. We’re establishing ourselves as a leader in this space."
