Wide receiver Maurice Harris drew cheers for a highlight-reel catch in one-on-one drills, out-jumping cornerback Greg Stroman to haul in a pass.

Several players had the morning off, while some of their teammates succumbed to the intense heat.

Swearinger is not here today. Might be a vet day. Update after practice.

— Craig Hoffman (@CraigHoffman) August 5, 2018

Jamison Crowder not practicing this morning either.

— John Keim (@john_keim) August 5, 2018

Guard Kyle Kalis just left the field. Appears to be heat related. Cold towel placed on head/neck as he left.

— John Keim (@john_keim) August 5, 2018

Ty Nsekhe was slow to get up after one play. A few plays later Tyler Catalina stayed down. Catalina looked like it was heat related.

Rain hit Richmond in the afternoon, however, forcing the Redskins to shorten their afternoon walkthrough.

Saturday, August 4

After Friday's off day, the Redskins return to training camp today for Fan Appreciation Day. As usual, the day began with Jay Gruden providing some injury updates, specifically on Daron Payne and Josh Doctson.

Aaaaaand we're back. Gruden to the podium in Richmond. Injury updates:Payne is out of the boot. On track.Doctson - he denies the report of the heel being drained. He says Dox will do some work today, but not much.

— Craig Hoffman (@CraigHoffman) August 4, 2018

Brian Mitchell of NBC Sports Washington reported on Thursday Doctson had a swollen heel drained, in addition to the shoulder injury that he picked up on Wednesday, but Gruden said, "I don't think I've ever heard of a heel being drained, so I don't know where that came from. That is not true."

Doctson is on the field today taking part in some drills, but isn't a full participant just yet.

Josh Doctson is here and catching footballs, as promised. pic.twitter.com/yYMhlPYmDb

— Craig Hoffman (@CraigHoffman) August 4, 2018

Doctson isn’t in one on one’s. I imagine he’s not in any competitive work today.

— Craig Hoffman (@CraigHoffman) August 4, 2018

Off the field, Redskins fans have turned out in force for Fan Appreciation Day.

Bigger crowd today for Fan Appreciation Day pic.twitter.com/u3COcfDJwK

— John Keim (@john_keim) August 4, 2018

The large crowd had something to cheer about early on in practice, as Josh Norman picked off an Alex Smith pass.

Entire first team offense out there for the first snap of team. Doctson, Williams and Moses all included. Guice ran for a few yards.Second snap had real excitement. Deep ball from Smith to Robert Davis and Norman high-pointed it to pick it off. Crowd, which is huge, loves it.

— Craig Hoffman (@CraigHoffman) August 4, 2018

The ground game has also gotten in plenty of work this afternoon, both running backs and defenders making some good plays.

Short yardage period is live. Guice was good. Kelley the same as Guice. Perine went 1/2, showing the best and worst of what he can do. One carry he didn’t have the burst to make the hole. Another he ran through a DB at the goal line.

— Craig Hoffman (@CraigHoffman) August 4, 2018

Preston Smith with a big stop in goal line. Off block well and tackles Kelley.

— John Keim (@john_keim) August 4, 2018

Perine with a good power run into Hamilton. Perine wins. Td

— John Keim (@john_keim) August 4, 2018

Thursday, August 2

Jay Gruden opened the day with some injury updates, including the status of Josh Doctson.

Gruden says Ioannidis is fighting a turf toe injury, but it's getting better.

— Craig Hoffman (@CraigHoffman) August 2, 2018

Several players missed practice heading into Friday's off day, but veteran middle linebacker Mason Foster made his return to team drills.

Mason Foster is back in team drills. Lots of guys sitting today. Kerrigan taking a vet day. Obviously Doctson is out. Limiting Crowder and Richardson’s reps.

— Craig Hoffman (@CraigHoffman) August 2, 2018

As the day continued, a couple players appeared to pick up a knock or two.

Morgan Moses slow to get up after a one-on-one rep with Ryan Anderson. Ginger on his ankle, which obviously isn’t good. He had both surgically repaired this off-season.

— Craig Hoffman (@CraigHoffman) August 2, 2018

Smith tries Norman in a blitz period and JNo tips it out of Quick’s hands for a Zach Brown INT. Norman is a little fuzzy after. On a knee on the sideline.

— Craig Hoffman (@CraigHoffman) August 2, 2018

The Redskins were able to complete their morning practice, but inclement weather prevented them from having an afternoon walk-through.

Walk-through is cancelled. It finally actually rained as forecasted --

— Craig Hoffman (@CraigHoffman) August 2, 2018

Before the rain came down, however, long snapper Nick Sundberg provided one fan a moment of sunshine

Wednesday, August 1

Today began with the first transaction of training camp.

#Redskins make their first roster move since the opening of camp. They've waived OL Alex Balducci and signed LB Dadi Nicolas.

— Craig Hoffman (@CraigHoffman) August 1, 2018

Additionally, DeAngelo Hall came to practice today and announced he is officially retiring.

One of the greatest to ever do it! @DeAngeloHall23 checks in from #SkinsCamp and he's got some news. #HTTR pic.twitter.com/eh1NIUH1Fh

— Washington Redskins (@Redskins) August 1, 2018

On the field, the intensity is clearing picking up as the first preseason game approaches.

Period ends with a beautiful ball from Smith to Crowder on a corner route. On the other side of the field, OL/DL unit work was intense. Tomsula was pissed with guys going to the ground. Allen was pissed with the DL in general.

— Craig Hoffman (@CraigHoffman) August 1, 2018

Chirping starting early today. Physicality is high. Almost would be surprised if we made it through today without a fight. Swearinger and Bibbs did a lot of talking after Bibbs and Robertson tussled over a ball.

— Craig Hoffman (@CraigHoffman) August 1, 2018

Alex Smith continued to enjoy a strong start to his first Redskisn training camp, finding receivers with several great throws.

Smith + Crowder = 6⃣#SkinsCamp #HTTR pic.twitter.com/G78vhdy0Dr

— Washington Redskins (@Redskins) August 1, 2018

Paul Richardson with a diving catch deep down the sideline in team drills. Beautiful ball from Smith. Smith also hit Doctson deep on the sideline in 7-on-7.

— Craig Hoffman (@CraigHoffman) August 1, 2018

It's not all good news for the passing attack, however. Josh Doctson has picked up another injury.

Doctson walking off favoring his left arm/shoulder. Norman didn’t leave his side until he left the field.

— Craig Hoffman (@CraigHoffman) August 1, 2018

Doctson was running horizontally along the goal line and Smith put a perfect ball about 5 yards inside the pylon. Norman got his hand in to break it up and Dox lost it when he went down to the ground, landing hard on his shoulder.

— Craig Hoffman (@CraigHoffman) August 1, 2018

#Redskins WR Josh Doctson is being evaluated for a shoulder injury. An update on his status will be shared tomorrow.

Tuesday, July 31

Training camp resumed in Richmond today, and the day began with a hilarious name mix-up during Jay Gruden's morning press conference.

Gruden with a little slip talking about the QBs. Meant to say "Colt" but a "Kirk" slipped out...

— John Keim (@john_keim) July 31, 2018

On a more serious note, several players recovering from injuries are taking encouraging steps.

Jay Gruden said LB Ryan Anderson will practice today. Had missed time with back spasms.

— John Keim (@john_keim) July 31, 2018

Chris Thompson is going to get team reps today, per Gruden. He's participated in 7-on-7, but now we'll see some 11-on-11.

— Craig Hoffman (@CraigHoffman) July 31, 2018

Brian Quick (thigh contusion) is back.

— Craig Hoffman (@CraigHoffman) July 31, 2018

Mason Foster remains out of action after straining a stomach musle on Sunday, and the coaches made sure several linebackers fighting for a spot got reps with him sidelined.

Ton of mixing and matching at ILB with Foster on the side. Vigil, Brown, JHC and Hamilton all getting first team run.

— Craig Hoffman (@CraigHoffman) July 31, 2018

The morning practice has concluded, with Chris Thompson and Quinton Dunbar providing some of the day's early highlights.

Chris Thompson just ran a really sharp angle route in team. Looked good. He’s working back to 100%, but that was nice to see.

— Craig Hoffman (@CraigHoffman) July 31, 2018

Qunton Dunbar has had a terrific camp. Just picked off a pass in the end zone. Good coverage on a fade to the corner for Davis. Maybe didn’t get both feet in. Still a very good play

— John Keim (@john_keim) July 31, 2018

Morgan Moses took the podium following practice, and the veteran tackle gushed about new quarterback Alex Smith

Quote of the day: RT Morgan Moses on QB Alex Smith: "You can just tell by the three days, four days we’ve been on the field, how much the playbook has grown. He’s just not a thrower, he can run, you have to respect his run, we got a little bit of option... https://t.co/YQpn2jjawY

— John Keim (@john_keim) July 31, 2018

Fellow offensive tackle Ty Nsekhe and tight end Jordan Reed did not participate in practice Tuesday, but don't panic Redskins fans: it's all part of the plan.

Official injury update: Reed and Nsekhe were scheduled off days.Foster has a stomach muscle strain and was limited.

— Craig Hoffman (@CraigHoffman) July 31, 2018

Monday, July 30

Could we see Jonathan Allen on offense in 2018? "Let me play a little fullback," the second-year defensive lineman says.
Despite an ankle injury, the Skins are "blown away" by how far along top pick Daron Payne is.
If you haven't heard it, snake-bitten tight end Jordan Reed – coming off a torn right hamstring – spoke to Craig Hoffman about rebuilding his body from the ground up this offseason, and the revolutionary process he used to do it.

Craig Hoffman on the areas in which Alex Smith is far and away better than Kirk Cousins:

The Redskins will give one fan a VIP experience at their home-opener against the Colts on Sept. 16.
