The Redskins begin life without Derrius Guice today as training camp resumes in Richmond. Jay Gruden said in his pre-practice presser he has faith in the rest of Washington's running back group

Gruden to the podium in Richmond. He says they’re confident in the backs they have with Guice out. Which is not surprising.

While Guice may be out for the year, Gruden provided some encouraging news on the Redskins' other top rookie.

Jay Gruden said Daron Payne will practice today. Unsure if he'll play vs. the Jets on Thursday.

— John Keim (@john_keim) August 11, 2018

Gruden also gave some updates on others injured in Thursday's night loss at New England.

Ioannidis has an ankle sprain and a knee strain. He’ll be week-to-week.

— Craig Hoffman (@CraigHoffman) August 11, 2018

Gruden said Trey Quinn is OK. Might do some work today.

— John Keim (@john_keim) August 11, 2018

In case you needed more confirmation, the Redskins officially placed Guice on IR today, along with several other roster moves.

Roster moves:

And as Gruden predicted, Payne is practicing!

DaRon Payne is back in uniform. Doctson, Crowder and basically everyone else is too. Josh Harvey-Clemons still missing.

Another day, another injury for the Redskins offense, as wide receiver Robert Davis has been carted off the field.

Robert Davis just got up limping and then was aided to the sideline by trainers. Cart is taking him from the sideline to the tent.

Friday, Aug. 10

The Redskins did not practice Friday, but received by far the worst news of the preseason so far: Derrius Guice will miss the 2018 season after tearing his ACL against the Patriots Thursday.
Initial reports indicated Guice had merely sprained his MCL, but an MRI on Friday confirmed the injury was far more serious. Rick Snider calls the loss of Guice a "massive gut punch," arguing the LSU product is irreplaceable in the Redskins backfield.
Aside from the devastating Guice news, the Redskins also learned Matt Ioannidis will likely miss time with a knee injury suffered on Thursday, but should be ready by Week 1.

Was told DE Matt Ioannidis will “miss a little time” after hurting his knee Thursday but that he’ll be ready for the season opener.

The Redskins' ground game took a major hit Friday, but Maurice Harris likes Washington's passing attack, lauding the team's depth at wide receiver during an appearance on 106.7 The Fan's "Grant & Danny."

The Redskins return to practice tomorrow, and the team has adjusted the schedule for the next few days of training camp.

More #SkinsCamp schedule updates: Both Monday and Tuesday's practices with the New York Jets will now begin at 9:45 am.

Thursday, Aug. 9

The Redskins began their four-game preseason slate on Thursday against New England, ultimately falling to the Patriots 26-17. Jay Gruden elected to rest most of the starters, including quarterback Alex Smith
Of the regulars that played, several of them picked up injuries. Highly-touted rookie running back Derries Guice was forced to depart after appearing to injure his knee on a 34-yard run (which was called back on a holding penalty), and defensive lineman Matt Ioannidis also injured his leg after showing off a new sack dance

The Redskins are traveling to New England today. They’ll get their first live action of the preseason Thursday night at 7:30 p.m.

Tuesday, Aug. 7
Jay Gruden revealed that Josh Doctson, in addition to bruising his shoulder, also bruised his heel on the same play in practice last week.

When you think of coaches comparable to Jay Gruden, Nick Saban obviously comes to mind. No?

"I'm going to be very honest," Jonathan Allen tells 106.7 The Fan. "I feel like they're very similar in a lot of ways."

One of the first questions I get this time of year when I do Q&A’s is “who are the UDFA’s who could make it?” My answers this year are Danny Johnson and Kenny Ladler. So I talked to them both:

Richardson says that the offense is different when Reed is in. He says that's one of the things that makes Jay Gruden special. He knows exactly how to use each guy to maximize what they can do.

Monday, Aug. 6

The third week of Redskins training camp is officially underway! Jay Gruden began the morning by tempering expectations that Trent Williams will be ready to go for the first preseason game on Thursday.

Gruden said Trent Williams would be doubtful for Thursday's game. Again, no surprise. Says he could play, but doesn't need to right now. working way back in...

— John Keim (@john_keim) August 6, 2018

On the other hand, Gruden provided some good news on another offensive lineman recovering from injury.

Shawn Lauvao, who had an ankle issue, expected to at least take part in individual work this morning.

RELEASED: The First (Unofficial) Depth Chart

With Thursday's game against New England in mind, the Redskins aren't practicing in pads today.

#Redskins are in shells today. No pads. Next time they put the pads on is probably Thursday in New England.

— Craig Hoffman (@CraigHoffman) August 6, 2018

On with The Sports Junkies this morning, Craig Hoffman said that Derrius Guice probably won't get double-digit carries on Thursday, but added that the rookie's already "solidified himself" as the Redskins' top running back.

Speaking of Guice... Josh Norman says if it were up to him, he'd draft Guice over Giants rookie Saquon Barkley
Several players are working on the conditioning field today, including Josh Doctson and D.J. Swearinger.

Guys on the rehab/conditioning field today: Josh Doctson, Jamison Crowder, Kapri Bibbs, DaRon Payne, Brian Quick, Montez Carter and Demetrius Rhaney.

— Craig Hoffman (@CraigHoffman) August 6, 2018

Among the players working off to the side: Crowder, Swearinger and Doctson.

— John Keim (@john_keim) August 6, 2018

Meanwhile, the Redskins have made a minor transaction.

#Redskins sign LB Cassanova McKinzy, waive LB Alex McCalister designated as injured.

— Washington Redskins (@Redskins) August 6, 2018

Some friendly fire on the practice field this morning, as Ryan Kerrigan shook up wide receiver Maurice Harris. Harris had one of the highlights of training camp so far with a ridiculous catch in practice on Sunday.

Ryan Kerrigan just smacked Maurice Harris pretty good on a reverse action and Harris is still shaking out his shoulder. We’ll see when he gets back in. Pretty big collision.

— Craig Hoffman (@CraigHoffman) August 6, 2018

Speaking of highlights, Vernon Davis showed that he's still got some bounce with a leaping grab over Fish Smithson.

He's still got it.@VernonDavis85 #SkinsCamp #HTTR

— Washington Redskins (@Redskins) August 6, 2018

Undrafted free agent Danny Johnson also put Redskins fans on notice with a great interception this morning.

7-on-7 pick for Danny Johnson, who I talked to yesterday. Interview will be up later. Great play by him dropping in zone underneath a deeper route.

— Craig Hoffman (@CraigHoffman) August 6, 2018

Today's morning practice has concluded, and here are The Fan columnist Rick Snider's thoughts on the session.

OK, so that hot, sweaty practice is over and now the clouds are overhead for shade. Kind of a low-energy workout given conditions. Jordan Reed made some nice catches. Rob Kelley caught one off his fingertips. Guice continues to run strong. Kind of a same ole kind of day.

— Rick Snider (@Snide_Remarks) August 6, 2018

After practice, the Redskins provided these injury updates.

Injury updates: Brian Quick (thigh contusion), Kapri Bibbs (knee contusion), Zach Brown (mild stomach strain), Josh Harvey-Clemons (hamstring) are all day-to-day.Guys who missed for rest: Swearinger, Doctson and Crowder.

— Craig Hoffman (@CraigHoffman) August 6, 2018

And once again, an afternoon walkthrough was cancelled due to weather.

Today's #SkinsCamp afternoon walkthrough is cancelled. The #Redskins resume camp tomorrow with practice at 1:35 p.m.
