Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Randy Arozarena has reportedly been arrested in Mexico amid allegations related to domestic violence.
Prosecutors in the Mexican state of Yucatan confirmed Arozarena was detained for "problems relating to his ex-partner," the Associated Press reported.
Local media had reported that Arozarena married a Colombian woman in Mexico earlier this month, the report said.
Arozarena, 25, had not been officially charged yet while prosecutors decided whether to proceed with the case, according to the AP.
The Cuba native broke out in a big way during the 2020 postseason, clubbing a record 10 home runs while hitting .377 with 14 RBIs in 20 games. His exploits earned him the Babe Ruth Award for the top overall performer in the playoffs.
The former Cardinals prospect was acquired by the Rays from St. Louis in the same deal that brought Jose Martinez to Tampa. The right-handed-hitting slugger debuted with the Redbirds in a brief 19-game stint in 2019.
Arozarena had yet to comment on the allegations, the report said.
