COVID-19 is changing many holiday traditions this year, including drive-thru haunted houses, virtual Christkindlmarket, and now, unfortunately, Santa Claus will not be at the Macy's Store downtown to spread some holiday cheer and take photos with families.
Macy's made the announcement on Thursday saying Santa will not be greeting kids at any of their flagship stores including Chicago, New York, and San Francisco due to rising coronavirus cases.
According to a statement to The Associated Press, the department store is instead moving to a virtual event that, "will safely bring the magic of Santa Claus to children of all ages this year." No more information has been given on this new virtual experience yet, but hopefully, it will feel just like the real thing.
ALSO while Santa might not be at Macy's this year, the Walnut Room will still be open in Chicago and feature the Annual Great Tree AND a delicious holiday menu. Reservations are required and CDC guidelines will be followed.
BUT do not fret, because children will still be able to see Santa in the televised Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade!
