Carly Pearce shares she’s ‘stronger than I thought’ after filing for divorce

How the singer reframed her failed marriage with optimism and courage

Carly Pearce took a big emotional step towards reconciliation in her latest interview with People magazine, detailing her recent divorce from ex Michael Ray.

"Things happen, and I think it's just something that has to stay between the two of us,” the 30-year-old singer intimated.

The couple wed last October in Nashville. As the coronavirus pandemic began to hit the United States, the “Hide The Wine” singer told People she and Ray split time between their home in Nashville, and quarantining at the Pearce household in Alabama.

Fans began speculating about a possible split after the couple’s last public appearance on June 6 for a live stream concert at Nashville's empty Grand Ole Opry. “Hopefully, people respect us to understand that we are humans and I certainly didn't get married to get divorced," Carly told ET Canada in a recent interview.

"Things happen, and I think it's just something that has to stay between the two of us."

Pearce has framed the life event with optimistic eyes, realizing that struggles are just part of the journey. "We shouldn't [be striving for perfection]. It's so easy to look at artists, like myself or whoever, and think their lives are perfect. That's just not a reality for any of us," she told the publication.

"I think when you go through a lot of changes in every aspect of your life, you kind of realize that imperfections are kind of what make us all ourselves."

Seems Pearce wants only to write a new story for her career and life journey. "I've felt the love of fans and appreciate that," she told People. "I think it's one of those moments you think, 'You're a human.'"

"I'm way stronger than I thought."
