Auto N Sider | 2021 Chevy Blazer RS AWD
Old Name / New Vehicle
If three rows is more than you need…
But you’re still looking for ample room for five…towing ability…park-ability…garage-ability…decent mileage…and a fresh new look...
You might like to take a look at Chevy’s new Blazer.
While the Chevy’s new Blazer was launched in ’20, due to COVID supply issues they’re just now starting to arrive at Chevy dealerships in any quantity.
And if the “man on the street” reaction is any measure, Chevy may have another winner on its hands. We stopped more than our fair share of traffic with our test RS dressed in silver ice metallic paint and wearing 20” dark alloys. I’d call it a chiseled yet muscular look. Again, it seemed just edgy enough to stand out in a crowded parking lot.
Again…this isn’t the truck-like Blazer from the past that eventually grew into the Tahoe. Instead, this is a thoroughly modern and comfortable unibody SUV.
What can it do? Pretty much anything…depending upon how you equip it.
Today’s Chevy Blazers start in the high $20’s and come standard with a 193 HP 2.5 liter four and a nine-speed automatic.
If you want All-Wheel-Drive, you’ll need to step up to the 227 HP 2.0 liter Turbo or Chevy’s 308 HP 3.6 liter V-6. Opt for the V-6 and you can tow up to 4,500 lbs. and still get EPA mileage of 19 city and 26 MPG on the road.
In “RS” trim our AWD V-6 Blazer had a window-sticker in the high-$40’s and included favorites like those dark 20” alloys we mentioned earlier, heated and ventilated front sets, heated steering, Bose 8-speaker audio, surround-vision, remote start, virtually every safety alert made today, some creative cargo organizers in the rear that prevent load-shifting…plus something new this year…on-board Alexa.
In short, you and up to four passengers should find pretty much everything that you’re looking for in today’s new Blazer…and while the new Blazer nameplate will have to survive into the 2058 model year to match the 38-year lifespan of Chevy’s previous Blazer…with this Blazer’s looks and capability…who knows?
