Dr. Bernice King says she never imagined, that just a dozen days outside of the King Holiday, the United States would be experiencing an insurgency at the U.S. Capitol. While, the CEO of the King Center, applauds the U.S.Congress for its impeachment of President Trump for "inciting" the violence, Dr. King says "We can't heal until we face the truths about racism."

On Monday, January 18, 2021, the nation observes the 35th Anniversary of the King Holiday with the theme "The Urgency of Creating the Beloved Community".  Dr. King explains to Radio.com's Maria Boynton that like her father, the late civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., she believes "If we don't find a pathway to create a more just, humane, peaceful, and equitable world, we're going to lose our civiliation."

The King Center has a schedule of virtual programs and events in celebration of the 2021 King Holiday Observance, including the Beloved Community Commemorative Service on Monday.  The schedule can be viewed at http://www.thekingcenter.org .
