The Atlanta Hawks got off to a nice start, but they really have struggled as of late. The 2020-21 season is going to be an adjustment for this young team. No longer are they the team that is in a rebuild. This team has been constructed to make the playoffs.
One of the things that has been talked about ad nauseam is John Collins calling out Trae Young about getting more touches. A lot of people can look at that move and think that Collins wants the ball so he can get paid. But the one thing head coach Lloyd Pierce has to figure out if that is a winning formula. Collins probably had good intentions when calling out Young, but that may make it easier for the Hawks to see what they can get in return before the trade deadline.
Kurt Helin, of Probasketballtalk.com, joined The Jon Chuckery Show to try to make sense of what is going on with the Hawks.
"You have to at least consider it," Helin said. Even though Collins is a restricted free agent, the Hawks still have the ability to match any offer from another team. Also, it is well known that the Hawks weren't willing to give him max money.
There are some teams that will have a lot of money that they have to spend and could be more than willing to give Collins what he wants. The Hawks just have to make sure that they don't allow Collins to walk and get nothing in return.
