Ann shares with Rashad that anxiety can be normal for children adjusting to their surroundings. Ann states that children suffer from various types of anxieties; separation anxiety, social anxiety and general anxiety.
Children show anxiety in many ways including trouble sleeping, fatigue, stomach ache and sucking their thumb. Ann says it’s great for kids to learn breathing exercises or coping techniques such as holding a favorite blanket.
Thumb sucking can delay children from communicating and impede social development. According to Ann, finding alternatives early will benefit the child in the long-run. At Ann's childcare facility, her team creates a strategy alongside the parents to ensure the child has the best opportunity to eliminate this habit.
