(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Arlington Park Racecourse has been given another lease on life from state regulators, despite a vote that could have forced the renowned track to shut down.
Some members of the Illinois Racing Board had questioned Arlington Park’s commitment to Illinois now that it’s owned by Churchill Downs and is not applying for slot machines that other tracks say could be good for them.
Arlington owners say they’re not sure slot machines would be good for their property.
Arlington President Tony Petrillo pleaded for new racing dates to be awarded, saving 2,300 jobs.
The Illinois Racing Board agreed that too many people would lose their jobs.
The industry has another year to figure out the changing economic landscape.
