AURORA (WBBM NEWSRADIO) – Aurora's mayor has announced that the city's pride parade is back on after it was canceled by organizers several days ago.

The cost of security and other expenses that come with putting on a parade jolted organizers of the pride parade in Aurora.

They had been planning a second annual pride parade, set for June.

But city council action in January saddled all parade organizers with paying for security, and suddenly pride parade organizer Indivisible Aurora was looking at a big, unexpected expense.

The organization canceled the parade.

Mayor Richard Irvin and organizers worked out an arrangement, and Irvin announced a deal Tuesday.

"I'm happy to say the board of directors of Indivisible Aurora has agreed to reverse a decision and not cancel the pride parade,” he said. “The 2019 Aurora pride parade is back on."

Indivisible Aurora says it still has to come up with more than $12,000.
