CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A local veteran’s group has just put the finishing touches on its first-ever virtual firework show that will be streamed live on Facebook Saturday.
Combined Veterans of Berwyn will host its Virtual Fireworks show to keep the celebrations strong online, said Anthony Ward Sr., president of the Combined Veterans of Berwyn, who has served as the emcee for the Fourth of July fireworks in recent years.
“We’ve had to do some strange things in the last six months,” Ward Sr. said. “The VA has shut down, work is put off, everything is closed and since basically all the communities have basically stopped the thought of a fireworks show, we just went deep into the well and came up with a wild hair idea and now we did it.”
He said the organization took video from the last four fireworks shows in Berwyn and added music in the background to bring viewers a "trip down memory lane," according to the Facebook event.
The livestreams are at 11 a.m. and 5 p.m.
The organization, which works to assist veteran that needs help and to assure they are not forgotten, will still be hosting its 14th annual Raising the Flags event, which will be a car caravan this year and stop at 13 public Berwyn locations to raise the American flag in honor of Independence Day.
