"As medical professionals respond to the COVID-19 public health crisis, PPE supplies are in critical shortage and are essential in protecting healthcare providers as they care for patients in need. Project C.U.R.E. will now distribute all donations collected at the United Center on Sunday to local healthcare providers across the state of Illinois," the United Center said in a statement.
WBBM Newsradio's Nancy Harty reported that donors, many wearing masks themselves, came through the United Center parking lot to drop off PPE during Project C.U.R.E's drive.
Executive Director Beth Rottman said medical workers and first responders desperately need items other organizations may have a surplus of.
"On behalf of the Chicago Bulls, Chicago Blackhawks, our athletes, our front offices and our dedicated United Center personnel, our thoughts and support are with the people of this great city and state. Together, we will get through this," the United Center said in a statement.
