CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — COVID restrictions are being eased in some areas of the country, but how bold should anyone get if they decide to take a trip?

Dr. Chris Colbert, director of the emergency medicine residency program at University of Illinois-Chicago, shares his thoughts with Cisco Cotto in the latest coronavirus edition of the WBBM In Depth podcast.

First off, Colbert says, driving in your own vehicle continues to be the safest option, compared to other modes of transportation, such as flying, where you may be crowded with strangers.

Above all, he said, it’s important to continue practicing good hygiene and wearing a mask in public.

Colbert said travellers should consider avoiding hotspots where coronavirus has surged.

“Maybe rethink traveling to those (locations) in any capacity,” he said.

On the other hand, he said, there are places that are opening up because of favorable metrics.
