CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- With bars closed because of COVID-19, a man who moved to Chicago from Wales hopes to help fill the void with a virtual pub on Facebook.
It’s called "The Stay Inn."
Creator David Chriswick said it features what you'd find at many bars including trivia games, live music, and even stand-up comedy.
Chriswick said when his favorite bar in Bucktown was closing because of COVID-19, he realized he would miss the type of companionship he had there, as well as the pubs he remembered from Wales.
He said "The Stay Inn" has become a world-wide phenomenon with about 800 followers from across Chicago as well as Britain, Ireland, Australia and Asia.
Chriswick said "The Stay Inn" also has a humanitarian goal. Visitors are encouraged to make a donation to charities that feed the hungry in the U.S. and the U.K.
He said the virtual pub’s motto is "to spread smiles and not the virus."
You can find “The Stay Inn” on Facebook or at thestayinn.org.
