Group Gets $10M Boost To Help Revitalize South Side

(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A South Side collaborative has been awarded a $10 million prize for its work combining better health and economic development.

The Pritzker Traubert Foundation has chosen Always Growing, Auburn-Gresham as the recipients of its first-ever Chicago Prize of $10 million.

Members of the collaborative were on a conference call when they found out the won the award.

Always Growing co-leader Carlos Nelson said the organizations repurposes old buildings for health and economic development projects. Erika Allen leads the Urban Growers Collective, part of the effort.

The foundation also has set up $2.5 million fund for five other finalist teams.
