CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) --  Some of Illinois' African American lawmakers are calling for an end to the looting and violence in Chicago and across the state.

Representative Camille Lilly with the Illinois Legislative Black Caucus issued a desperate plea in front of one of the dozens of shuttered buildings in the now closed Grand Boulevard Plaza in Englewood.

"The events that have taken place over this past weekend have been just as hurtful, or even more as the virus that has plagued our communities these past couple of months.

She said looting is not the answer. Harper said community and criminal justice reform are desperately needed.

The Illinois Black Caucus is also calling for an end to the looting and violence, and asking lawmakers, neighbors and activists to make real change for a positive future.
