(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Illinois health officials reported 1,319 new cases of novel coronavirus on Monday, including one death related to COVID-19.
The latest total comes as the state, collectively, continues to report daily caseloads of more than 1,000 after enjoying a downturn in the spread of the virus last month. The statewide “positivity rate” — the percentage of cases coming back positive for coronavirus — is 4.1%. That number had dropped to nearly 2% early last month.
Illinois is currently in Phase 4 of its gradual reopening amid the pandemic, but Gov. JB Pritzker has warned some regions could be pulled back into tougher restrictions if their COVID metrics spike.
Health officials continue to urge residents to stay socially distant with strangers, wear masks in public and continuously wash their hands.
