CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- At Mercy Circle living community on Chicago's South Side, Robin Creevy's sixth-grade students from Queen of Martyrs School in Evergreen Park walk fill up backpacks.

They filled them Thursday with toys, gifts, candy and a "kindness" rock, one that is a rock painted with an inspirational message.

The bags will be delivered to Margaret’s Village on Chicago’s South Side, where they will be distributed to homeless children.

Creevy says this is the second year her class has taken part in this program.

Sixth-grader Ryan Clark said participating in the activity makes him feel good because he is helping others.

The bags are blessed before being delivered.
