CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — It was one year ago today that Chance the Snapper was first spotted in the Humboldt Park Lagoon — and a week later, when his life changed forever.

The saga of July 2019 created two celebrities: Chance the Snapper, an apparently abandoned young gator, and Alligator Robb — otherwise known as Frank Robb — the Florida man who caught Chance and took him to warmer climes after a highly publicized capture.

Robb said he visits Chance every month or so at the St. Augustine Alligator Farm.

“I think he kinda gives me that stink-eye a little bit, like, ‘Man, are you that guy again?  Dagnabbit. You’re back here again?’" said Robb.

Robb’s life changed, too, when he came to Chicago. He became an overnight celebrity. He said he still has a girlfriend here.
