LYONS, ILL. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Lyons is among the areas affected by flooding after several days of heavy rainfall soaked Chicagoland.

Lyons Fire Chief Gordon Nord said about 40 residents were rescued by boat along Circle Drive overnight in the western suburb. Nord said about 15 dogs, cats and birds were rescued from homes, as well. The street sits next to Salt Creek which has overflowed due to heavy weekend rains.

The chief said the 40 to 50 homes on Circle Drive and on Southview Avenue have flooded basements.

He said a pump was put in yesterday afternoon but has not done much good.

Nord said he is hoping for a couple of dry days to give the creek a chance to recede.
