CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Irma Sweet and Christine Buchanan both turned 100 in December and celebrated with friends and family Friday at Montgomery Place in Hyde Park.

"I'm blessed every morning I wake up," said Sweet.

She said the secret to a long life is “believing in God and asking him to check in on me."

Buchanan’s daughter, Donna, said her mother led a good, clean life.

"She never ate much sugar, she didn't smoke, she didn't drink. She worked, you know, so I think that's the secret," said Donna Townsend.

The birthday girls were also joined by two-week-old Wesley Jay Patton, Hyde Park's first baby of 2020.

"That was really a blessing," said Sweet.
