MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- An inmate at the Indiana State Prison stabbed a correctional officer to death Sunday and seriously injured another. The suspect was already serving a sentence for murder.
The stabbing at the Indiana State Prison in Michigan City sent two correctional officers, whose names have not yet been released, to the hospital.
According to Indiana State Police, Tymetri Campbell, a 38-year-old inmate at the prison, attacked the employees in a common area of the prison just after 2:30 p.m. Sunday.
Both officers were taken to St. Anthony’s Hospital in Michigan City, where one was pronounced dead. The other remains in serious condition.
Campbell was sentenced to 65 years in a maximum security facility for murder charges in 2004. He was being held on suspicion of murder and other charges in the correctional officers' stabbings.
